FAQ

frequently asked questions

Q: How much does a tattoo cost?

A: I charge $180 an hour, but I work efficiently. If you would like a quote on your concept or idea, it is best to send an email so that we can chat about detail, size, placement etc, and I can give an estimate. I usually flat rate my own flash designs, so if you choose from my book of available designs I can give you a set price.

Q: How can I book an appointment?

A: I prefer to manage consults by email, please email me at info@missingicarus.com and please include details including your concept or idea, size (be as accurate as possible, ie 3inches by 6 inches, or 10cm tall etc,) placement or where you want to get the tattoo, budget (if you have one.) Please feel free to send over any reference images or ideas you have as well as photos of the placement area if there are existing tattoos to work around.

Q: Where are you located?

A: I have a semi private studio space in the North End, Halifax. Address will be provided upon booking.

Q: Do you take credit cards?

A: Cash or e-trasnfer are preferred. I can accept debit card and Paypal payments for a 2% fee added. Credit card payments (Visa/Mastercard only) will have a 4% fee added- I am sorry to do this but the fees charged to me are actually more than I charge, and it adds up fast... I haven’t increased my rates since 2018, despite there being inflation increasing all my supply and material costs. All my merchant accounts have increased their fees to me over the last year and rather than increase my hourly rate to everyone, I have decided to charge back a portion of these fees only when these options are used. It sucks, and I’m sorry; but if needed these options are available and I hope folks will understand.

How to be prepared for your appointment:

-Be sure to eat something before your tattoo appointment, you may bring a snack but I do ask that we take a break for you to consume any food items away from the procedure area.

-Wear something clean and comfortable that will allow free access to the area you wish the tattoo to be placed. Please keep this in mind especially for ribs, hip, chest etc placements.

-I often have music playing but if you wish to bring your own entertainment please feel free to do so, however I ask that you also bring headphones so as to not distract the other artists that share our space.

-For your comfort and safety I am open to you bringing one friend or guest with you, however space is very limited and they may be asked to wait at the front of the shop. Please do not bring multiple guests as we simply do not have space to accommodate, and additional members of your party may be asked to leave.

-Please be respectful of the space we share together and with the other artists within the studio. Please do not move furniture or touch items without asking, as there are objects of art that may be fragile. Please do not enter other studio spaces without being invited.

-Please notify me of any needs or requests that would make you feel more comfortable. Ideally this is done before your appointment so that I have time to prepare if needed.

Deposit Policy

As a tattooer, if I don’t tattoo I don’t get paid. When you book an appointment, I am holding that time and space for you, and turning away other potential clients for that spot. Your appointment represents not only the time reserved for you in the shop but also the hours of work behind the scenes that includes research, drawing and design time. With that in mind, please be aware of the following:

-A deposit means that you have committed to a tattoo appointment and to the specific design choices discussed. Significant deviations or a full change to the ideas discussed after a drawing has been sent may result in a new deposit required to move forward with the tattoo session. (For example you ask for a giraffe and we agree on size and placement and specific elements of the giraffe tattoo. I draw a giraffe and send you the design, but then you say sorry I changed my mind I want a tattoo of a wheelbarrow now)

-For multi-session tattoos, the deposit is applied to the last session.

-After 1 year of no activity the deposit is considered abandoned.

-Upon the third request for reschedule/cancellation the deposit will be considered forfeit and another deposit will be required to re-book.

-Any cancellations or reschedules within 72 hours of the appointment time will be considered last minute, and will result in a loss of your deposit.

-Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE and non-transferable.

Revision Policy

-I will email all drawings/designs at least by the day before your appointment- please respect this is a service many artists do not offer.

-I am happy to make revisions, but this will be limited to 2 revisions only

-Please list any/all changes at one time, this is your first revision. I will make those changes and send a new draft of the design or drawing. If there are further changes, please list them all again, this is your second revision. I will make those changes and send another draft of the design. The purpose of this policy is to limit back and forth and to make the process as efficient as possible. I promise I do not mind making changes, but for efficiency sake please list them all at once.
